Iowa Pork Producers Association announces 2009 Master Pork Producer class
January 27, 2010
Des Moines

(CLIVE, Iowa) - The 68th annual class of Master Pork Producers will be recognized by their peers for excellence in pork production tonight at the 2010 Iowa Pork Congress Banquet in Des Moines.

The coveted brass belt buckle, emblematic of the award, and a certificate of achievement are being presented to 13 Iowa pork producers for 2009. All of the award winners were nominated by their peers and neighbors and are recognized for their expertise in their segments of the production cycle and understanding of current industry issues, quality assurance, animal identification and well-being and their production efficiency.

Those being honored as 2009 Master Pork Producers are:

  • David Hoogendoorn, Inwood, Lyon County
  • Gregg and Sandy Mattson, Alta, Buena Vista County
  • Myron, Wayne and Paul Pingel, Aurelia, Cherokee County
  • Lloyd, Norma and Curt Winters, Hull, Sioux County
  • Daniel Ulfers, West Bend, Kossuth County
  • Wayne Watts, Clarion, Wright County
  • Mike Williams, Williams, Hamilton County
  • Dean and Linda  Frazer, Conrad, Grundy County
  • Aaron and Trish Cook, Winthrop, Buchanan County
  • Ron and Elizabeth Juergens, Carroll, Carroll County
  • Brad and Joyce Moeckly, Elkhart, Polk County
  • James and Sandi Kopriva, Clutier, Tama County
  • Dan and Rachel Berdo, Washington, Washington County

The 2009 Master Pork Producers represent a cross-section of production types found in Iowa. It's the production diversity that helps make the state's pork industry strong and enables Iowa producers to compete successfully in the full range of commodity and specialty markets domestically and internationally.

The Iowa Pork Producers Association and Iowa State University co-sponsor the Master Pork Producer program, which began in 1942, to demonstrate the character and breadth of Iowa pork production.

The 2010 Iowa Pork Congress Banquet will be held at the Des Moines Marriott beginning at 6 p.m.
